A mum of three has been jailed for three and a half years for stabbing her boyfriend, Stefan Neanu, to death during a drunken row in Phibsboro. Norma Phillips (47) had pleaded not guilty to murder and was convicted of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
During her trial, the court heard Phillips and her boyfriend Stefan Neanu (36) went to a house party in April 2015 before returning to her flat on the Phibsboro Road. A row broke out and Phillips said Mr Neanu, who was originally from Romania, pulled a knife on her.
The mum of three claimed she pushed the 36 year old away in self-defence and he was stabbed in the chest. Emergency services arrived and Mr Neanu managed to walk out to the ambulance but later died in hospital.
She initially told gardai a man had called to the flat and stabbed her boyfriend but later said it was self-defence.
47 year Norma Phillips, who is originally from Zimbabwe, was found guilty of manslaughter and was jailed today for three and a half years.
Speaking afterwards Stefan Neanu’s aunt Gabi Corina Tapu criticised the sentence saying the accused would out in three years while her nephew would still be in the ground.
She added that Mr Neanu was a good and honest person and the only bad thing he ever did was meeting Norma Phillips.
