Locals in south county Dublin are being urged to take part in a walk this evening against sexual violence. It follows a number of reported assaults on women in the Shankill/Killiney area.
Last month a woman was attacked at the Bayview Estate, Killiney in the early evening. Gardaí said that a lone man approached the woman and attacked her.
The woman who suffered minor injuries managed to fight off the man. It was the second serious assault in Killiney this year and follows other incidents in Shankill last year.
The "Take Back The Night" walk will set off from Shankill Dart Station at 7:30pm and cover all of the areas where attacks took place.
Organiser Emily Lyon said women are concerned: "Even myself getting the bus home, or hearing that my friend won't go out and walk her dog on her own after a certain hour or that my mum won't go out for a run in the evening time, little changes that you make to your routine because you fear for this threat of violence that's out there."
She added: "the aim it reclaim our space but we're not going to reclaim it in one night, it's something that hopefully will boost a bit of community morale."
