A pensioner says it’s lucky he wasn’t killed after he was randomly knocked off his bike by a man in Tallaght. The victim in his 60s had gone for a cycle with his dog on the Cheeverstown Road when a man punched him, knocking him off his bike and he lost consciousness.
The next thing the pensioner remembered was waking up in hospital with a broken eye socket, severe bruising and cuts.
Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard the man who carried out the assault was then seen at Cheeverstown Luas Stop swinging a bat. The pensioner said he could have been killed that day and he’s scared about going out on his own.
28 year old Ruzmond Muwaniri of John McCormack Avenue in Crumlin - who suffers from schizophrenia - pleaded guilty to the assault.
The court heard he missed several appointments to take his injection for the illness around the time. He doesn’t remember carrying out the attack and was very sorry.
The Judge put back the case for four weeks for a probation report. She said the accused needs a dedicated care package going forward.
