Darragh O’Dea

This is the part that I put in some sensible stuff about myself! Well Radio…..its like the Marines……its like the priesthood…….its like Deadliest Catch……IT’S A CALLING!

So picture the scene, its 1988, your 15 and you know about 6 songs yet you are doing a show on a small garden shed pirate radio station in South Dublin from 1-8am!

Having worked on the pirates in the 80s and then some of the smaller local stations over the years as well as doing other jobs, I got the call to do brekkie on Q101 in Omagh, and then drive on Q102 in Derry.  Living in the north was excellent, where else could you go to gym, then to the local kebab shop all within 5 mins of your apartment!

I then made the move to Brekkie with South East Radio…..ah the sunny……eh….south east! I lived just off the wexford slob, so my back garden was about 10 miles of marshland!! Fast forward another year……..Im proud to say that it was the only time in my life that I was head hunted….to WLRfm in Waterford for brekkie there! That was an experience, many many interviews were done there with celebritys that you probably wouldnt remember now or who are on the caberet scene! Though I did get to talk to Daniel Bedingfield, so that was kinda cool. Yes, that was a highlight!!

Then there was that time I shared that plate of chips with Shane Filan from Westlife in the Westin Hotel.

Fast forward a couple of years…….its time that I was in Dublin……but just not sure where I was working……..memory lapse or something.

Believe it or not, I have been trying for a very long time to work in 98. Yeh I know its looks very kiss ass…………..well so be it!! :) I sent demo after demo to the boss…..hes a terrribly nice guy, handsome too and (insert other compliments here), so since June ’08 I have been part of the team at 98FM. You can find me on air night from 19:00 – 21:00 for 98FM’s Best Music Mix. Follow me on twitter as well! www.twitter.com/dodea98fm

Theres not many jobs that you can say you love, but I love my job!

Oh the ‘other stuff’ like you can find on your CV……..I have a dog…..Max. I can fly helicopters….A Robinson R44 and my all time favourite movie is ‘The Great Escape’
