Liverpool’s next league game is at home against Portsmouth next week – their push for a top four finish suffered another serious dent last night. Wigan notched just a second league win of 2010 – Hugo Rodaellga with the only goal at the DW. Pool are still one point off the two teams above them – but they’ve played one game more than Spurs in 4th, two more than Man City in 5th. Aston Villa are turning up the pressure from the other side – they’re three points behind Pool but with three games in hand.
Portsmouth will be hoping their Cup success can help kick start their bid for Premier League survival. After seeing Birmingham City out of the FA Cup at the weekend, the two are back at Fratton Park tonight for a league tie. Avram Grant’s side are four points adrift at the bottom.
Sunderland are far from safe themselves – they’re just three points off the drop zone ahead of their meeting with Bolton at the Stadium of Light.
