The State has admitted that part of the conviction of the woman known as ‘Lying-eyes’ for plotting to murder her partner and his two sons, is ‘unsustainable’.
Lawyers for the DPP have agreed that because Sharon Collins’ alleged co-conspirator, Egyptian poker dealer, Essam Eid was aquitted on those charges, it can’t stand over the jury’s verdict. Collins lawyers are now arguing that the remaining part of her conviction should also be overturned.
98’s Crime Correspondent Louise Byrne was today reporting from the Court of Criminal Appeal when – with flawless hair highlights and tan – an immaculately groomed Sharon Collins returned to challenge her convictions. And she got off to a good start – the State agreeing Collins shouldn’t have been convicted of some of the charges, becuase although she was found guilty of conspiring to murder PJ Howard and his sons, the Egyptian man she was accused of conspiring with was aquitted.
Essam Eid was only found guilty of demanding €100,000 from one of the sons.
So now Sharon Collins is appealing the second part of her conviction – on four different grounds, including the fact the defence wasnt allowed to test the poison ricin found in Mr Eid’s prison cell.
