Justice Minister: We Have to Learn from Terrence Wheelock’s Death

An inquiry into the death of Terrence Wheelock has found that he was not mistreated in any way at Store Street Garda Station.

The 20-year-old died in hospital three months after hanging himself in his cell.

An investigation from the Garda Ombudsman has found that officers didn’t cause his death, but that they didn’t remove the cord from from his tracksuit.

Justice Minister Dermot Ahern says lessons must be learned and that there’s ligature points while prisoners are in custody.
