The actor and philanthropist Paul Newman has died at the age of 83.

He was nominated for an oscar on nine occasions before winning for the Colour of Money in 1986.

His films include Cool Hand Luke, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Paul Newman also drove racing cars and raised millions of dollars for charity.

Amongst the organisations he supported was the Barretstown Camp for Kids in County Kildare.
