Brendan Courtney and his family are mourning the loss of his dad who died yesterday.
75 year old Frank Courtney passed away at Our Lady's Hospice in Harold's Cross.
A documentary earlier this year highlighted the family's difficulty in looking after Frank after his stroke.
They wanted to care for him in his home but couldn't access supports under the state's Fair Deal scheme.
Brendan has told the Irish Independent that his dad slipped away quietly yesterday.
"His carer Ray - a very good friend - went his room yesterday morning to give him his cup of tea. Dad said he was a bit cold, so Ray got him a blanket and then turned away. When he turned back, he was gone."
Frank's removal will take place on Friday morning for 10am mass at St. Kilian’s Church in Kingswood.
His funeral will be held immediately afterwards at Mount Jerome Crematorium in Harold’s Cross.
