Harvey Norman awards 98FM as Radio Partner of the Year
Friday 13th November: On Thursday 12th November Harvey Norman Computers held their first Annual Black Tie Awards Dinner at Clontarf Castle. Over 180 invitees from Harvey Norman, vendors and suppliers and the media attended.
The dinner was intended to offer everyone the opportunity to celebrate their successes and triumphs in the face of one of the toughest years in retail. The attendees were greeted with welcome drinks in the fantastic foyer of the hotel which wraps around the walls of Clontarf Castle before entering the Great Hall for dinner and the award presentations. Guests were welcomed with and opening address by John Hollings, General Manager of the Harvey Norman Computer division in which he encouraged everyone to invest and be positive in order to over come the currently difficult economic challenges.
Following the welcome, 26 Awards were presented throughout the night whilst everyone enjoyed a sumptuous 3 course meal. Many of the acceptance speeches carried the same tune of success through partnership, investment and good people.

98FM Launch Extensive Digital Communications Programme
62% Rise in Website Traffic Since Launch
Tuesday 18th August 2009: Top Dublin radio station 98FM have seen an increase of over 62% unique visits per month since the launch of their new-look website in July 2009. The re-design marked the start of 98FM new tactics to engage with their online audience, incorporating Twitter, Facebook and their brand new iPhone application.
Speaking about the design of the new website, Edward Melvin from Dublin based web agency ICAN said “We are simply giving 98FM the tools to fully engage with an online audience. Web and radio are a natural fit in many ways. Compelling media, user generated content and audience engagement is nothing new to radio. So we’re looking forward to seeing the DJs further embrace the web, as a platform”.
The new website lists a host of new features including new media centre that listeners can interact with, watch videos, get podcasts, download Mp3’s of the various shows, listen live or rate new music. There is also the Platinum Club for listeners which is free to join and offers members a host of new exclusive content and the chance to win cool new prizes!
The 98FM iPhone app also ranked number 1 free application within its first two weeks of launch and enables users to link directly to 98FM website, listen live from anywhere in the world and also wake up to Dublin’s Best Music Mix with the 98FM alarm clock feature.

98FM Siobhan O’ Connor Ranked 22/1 To Get Snapped With Superstar Ronaldo!
Wednesday 15th July 2009: 98FM stunner Siobhan O’ Connor has been ranked at 22/1 by cheeky bookmaker Paddy Power to be the FIRST Irish beauty to be pictured with Portuguese stud Christiano Ronaldo! Ladies man Ronaldo has yet to be pictured with any of Ireland’s top beauties including Rosanna Davidson or Glenda Gilson; however we reckon blonde bombshell Siobhan will get in their first!
The 98 Thunderbus will be broadcasting live from Carton House this coming Friday the 17th July. Siobhan, along with her Morning Crew co-presenters Dermot Whelan and Dave Moore, will be located within INCHES of Real Madrid’s training ground and will be attempting to steal a few words with the soccer superstar!
Speaking about the challenge Siobhan said “There is no way I will let our 98 listeners down, as I know they’re putting on the bets hard and fast. I plan on getting that photo with Ronaldo even if I have to streak on the pitch of their training ground at Carton House. I’ll do whatever it takes. As we all know Ronaldo can be persuaded, and I’m the woman for the job.”

Keith Barry Takes Ten Aerophobia Suffers to New Heights with 98FM and Aer Arann!
Friday 10th July 2009: At the end of June, top celebrity illusionist Keith Barry picked ten listeners of Dublin’s 98 who had a chronic
phobia of flying. Keith underwent two days of intensive therapy with the 10 aerophobia sufferers to help them overcome their fears and he guaranteed them that they would lose their fear of flying….forever.
To prove this, Keith Barry, 98FM Morning Crew presenter Siobhan O’ Connor and the ten listeners embarked on their first fear-free flight from Dublin to Cardiff courtesy of Aer Arann on Friday.
Patrick Moroney from New York tragically lost his brother in Tower 1 on 9/11, and his fear of flying has hindered his life ever since. Speaking after his successful flight to Cardiff , Patrick said “I wouldn’t be here without Keith Barry’s help”.
Speaking ahead of the flight this morning Keith Barry said ” It has been great, even though it has been incredibly emotionally draining for me. Every person has different issues regarding flying, and the key is trying to pin point and deal with these specific issues. It was hard but exciting and we managed to significantly reduce the fear of all those flying here today!”.
Among the ten listeners who flew with Aer Arann to Cardiff was Channel 6 Presenter Jenny Buckley, pilot’s daughter Aisling White, and Matthew Hudson who has avoided flying for ten years.
