It's been a year since Wes Hoolahan's goal against Sweden in our Euro 2016 opener. Great finish, great occasion, unreal celebrations. That got us thinking.
What have been our greatest days as a country on the international stage?
Six Nations 2009
Definitely Irish rugby's greatest moment, but maybe Irish sport's? It all came down to the final kick of the final game and Ronan O'Gara's drop goal granted Ireland their first Grand Slam since 1948. Declan Kidney's side hung on for a 17-15 win after a Stephen Jones penalty dropped short.
Katie Taylor Olympic Gold
Cast your mind back to August 9th 2012. Katie Taylor completed a lifetime dream by winning an Olympic gold medal when she beat Russia's Sofya Ochigava 10-8 in the women's lightweight final at the ExCel Arena. What made it more special was the sheer size of the crowd in London that day, and of course, Seán Bán Breathnach's commentary as Gaeilge.
Our first appearance at a World Cup was always going to be special, but nobody predicted how special. Draws in the group against England, Egypt and the Netherlands before THAT penalty shootout.
Sheedy, Houghton, Townsend, Cascarino all scored. Bonner saves Daniel Tomofte's spot kick and then a nation held its breath for David O'Leary's effort. One of the most memorable moments in Irish sporting history. A 1-0 loss to Italy in the quarter final ended the dream, but it was an experience that will be the highlight of many people's lives.
Ireland v England in Croke Park
Take away the history associated with this match, the stadium, the national anthems and the build up. What a performance. The final score was 43-13 but that doesn't tell the full story of how Ireland dismantled England on an emotionally charged day in Croke Park.
Conor McGregor UFC Two Weight Champion
After beating Jose Aldo in 13 seconds for the featherweight title, Conor McGregor set his sights on the lightweight title and he claimed it in style. McGregor defeated Eddie Alvarez to become the first ever two weight champion in New York's Madison Square Garden.
