Sligo Rovers have made their Showgrounds home ground available for use for the BreastCheck mobile clinic after a location was unable to be secured in the centre of Sligo.
After the club became aware of the issues of not being able to find a suitable home for the service, which will allow BreastCheck to provide free mammograms to all eligible women in the area, the Sligo Rovers committee agreed to offer the use of The Showgrounds and it will take up the location at the end of this month.
The mobile unit is now expected to serve women in the region from the end of July and will remain at The Showgrounds for approximately six months.
The move there means that the service will be delivered closer to Sligo town, a matter which was highlighted as a key concern for many women as well as their representatives in the area.
Commenting on the move, Sligo Rovers chairman Martin Heraghty said: "The club’s committee were delighted to approve this development.
"The Showgrounds is a place for the people of Sligo – and sometimes not just in sport. We will continue to strive to achieve our goals in the community. We receive significant financial backing from the public and know that arrives not just for the benefit of on-the-pitch, but off-the-pitch as well."
