Planning experts are discussing ways to solve Dublin's housing crisis at a conference today.
Lifting height restrictions and creating shared accomodation for professionals are some of the suggestions being made.
Cities like London and Berlin already have the student-style buildings, where office workers have their own bedroom and ensuite but share kitchens and living rooms.
President of the Irish Planning Institute Deirdre Fallon says whatever is to be done needs to be well thought out. "The quality must be paramount and what we are building now has to be fit for purpose into the future".
"This is again the message; short-term measures are they going to deliver for communities down the line", she said.
