A consultant has warned the CEO of Tallaght Hospital that its Emergency Department was dangerous and unsafe yesterday.
Doctor James Grey says it's only a matter of time before another person has a heart attack while waiting to be seen.
A review is underway at the hospital after two people suffered a cardiac arrest - one in a toilet and the other in the ED's waiting room.
Dr Grey says it's only a matter of time before that happens again, or worse, somebody dies.
His letter in the Irish Times details how the nurse shortage has forced units to close, while patients languished on trolleys and in resus rooms.
The hospital says its working to minimise trolley numbers but sometimes the facility is so busy that a person can deteriorate suddenly in a non treatment area.
