An autistic man accused of trying to murder his pregnant sister told Gardaí he decided to “do away with her” because she was carrying a Dublin baby.
Daniel O’Connell from Rosemount in Newpark in Kilkenny told a psychiatrist he was unhappy when he heard his sister was recovering from cancer.
Dr. Paul O’Connell said the accused told him he developed a hatred for Dublin and its people after being bullied during a school trip when he was younger and he was concerned his sister might have a child that would be raised in Dublin so he decided to kill her after finding out she wasn’t going to die from cancer.
The alleged attempted murder happened in her home in Knocklyon in Dublin in April of last year.
Mr. O’Connell stabbed her a number of times but the baby was uninjured in the attack and was later born healthy.
