Ireland's Lollipop people are being trained in 'conflict management'. As the new school year beings, they're embarking on a training programme to help defuse aggressive situations that may emerge on the roadside.
The training programme was originally designed to help pub and nightclub door staff handle drunken patrons.
Noel Gibbons is a Road Safety Education Officer and says it’s as part of an effort to tackle the growing problem of aggressive drivers.
"It's a sad reflection on modern times really. Motorists are getting frustrated by having to wait a few minutes to let small children cross the road, and they are showing agression towards the warden", he explained.
It is hoped inviting lollipop people to take part in the scheme will give them the tools to defuse tense stand-offs when schools start back in the next few weeks.
