Dublin City Council says the Housing Minister has pulled out of appearing at its monthly meeting later. Simon Coveney hasn't explained why he can't make it to discuss tackling the city's homeless problem.
A spokesperson from the Department of Housing told 98FM that Minister Coveney is simply "not available" for this evening's meeting.
Councillor Daithi Doolan said "Dublin City is slipping deeper and deeper into a housing crisis, and we thought this meeting was an opportuity to discuss this problem and find real solutions".
"I think it is absolutely disgraceful that the Minister has pulled out of the meeting", he told 98FM News.
A protest to raise awareness of the city's homeless crisis has been organised by Sinn Fein members and will begin at City Hall from 5pm before this evening's monthly meeting of Dublin City Council.
