The Help to Buy scheme could soon be scrapped.
The initiativee, which netted first-time buyers up to €20,000, was part of former Housing Minister Simon Coveney's strategy to alleviate Ireland's housing crisis.
However, the Sunday Times report that new Housing Minister, Eoghan Murphy, is said to bethinking of axing the grant after fears that the move has distorted the housing market and helped rocket property prices.
The new minister is reported to be looking into introducing measures aimed at increasing supply rather than policies encouraging people to buy.
The new Housing Minister has been tasked with a review of the Rebuilding Ireland housing strategy by September.
