Five people including a child have been killed in two separate car crashes. Two American tourists died in the first crash, which happened in Cork this morning.
It involved three vehicles and happened on the on the N20 Cork to Mallow Road at the Waterloo Junction at around 11am.
A man and a woman in their sixties were pronounced dead at the scene after the car that they were passengers in was involved in a collision with a truck.
The driver of the car and the third passenger were taken to Cork University Hospital non life threatening injuries. The driver of the second car involved was also taken to Cork University Hospital non life threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck was uninjured.
Just after midday, two adults and a child were killed in a crash between a car and a truck in Mayo.
Two women aged in their forties and seventies, and a child aged seven, died.
