Drivers could face automatic penalty points fines for blocking the path of trams on the new Luas cross city line.
There are six major pinch points along the new Luas cross city line where trams, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians have the potential to collide.
They inlcude Dawson Street, Nassau Street, College Green and O'Connell Street.
According to the Irish Times, the National Transport Authority is seeking powers to to automatically send fines to drivers who block yellow boxes at junctions.
The cameras were trialled at the junction of Blackhall place and Benburb street two years ago.
They take photos of cars that enter the intersection when the lights are red and send fines to the registered driver.
Trams will start taking passengers across the Liffey when the new Cross City line opens this Saturday.
