There's an appeal for information after the DSPCA rescued a dog that had been shot in west Dublin.
German Shepard 'Victoria' had to undergo surgery to remove a bullet from her neck.
Spokesperson Gillian Bird says Victoria was brought to the DSPCA after being dropped into a vet in Dublin 15.
Her microchip is not registered to an owner.
"She had wounds, one of which was very deep. Following an x-ray it was found that the dog had a bullet lodged in her neck, very close to her spine. After further x-rays and surgery, a bullet was removed. She was very lucky it did not do any major damage."
The bullet which appears to be from a handgun rather than a farmer's shot gun or a pellet gun / air rifle. It's been handed over to Gardai at Rathfarnham Garda Station for forensic testing.
Victoria should suffer no further complications but Gillian Bird says she is still very nervous.
