The death toll from the deadly California wildfires has risen to 71 after eight more bodies were discovered.

A blaze known as the Camp Fire has been raging across more than 150,000 acres in the US state.

Over 1,000 people are now missing - with the figure increasing by around 380 people since the last update from authorities.

Officials say the missing persons list is 'dynamic', and are urging anyone who is no longer missing to contact them so their name can be removed from the list.

Meanwhile, work is continuing to identify those killed in the fires.

Butte County sheriff Kory Honea explained: "Of the 71 human remains that we have found, we have tentatively identified 58 of those individuals - and we are waiting on DNA confirmation to be able to say conclusively who they are."

More than 10,000 homes have been destroyed, including entire neighbourhoods that have been decimated.

Donald Trump is preparing to visit California later today to see for himself the destruction caused and meet some of those affected.
