Everyone has had socks go 'missing'... and it appears the washing machine itself could be among the culprits.
A couple in California made the discovery when their washer broke.
The story was originally shared on the Bored Panda website, but a viral tweet has brought it to wider attention:

When the husband decided to take the machine apart, he removed the bottom panel.
He discovered that dozens of lost items that had been trapped inside - including loose change, a credit card... and a whole load of socks.
While it's just one possible reason why your socks have gone 'missing', it also suggests you may not be going completely mad...
