If Conor McGregor's prediction is to be believed, he will now knock Floyd Mayweather out in the first round when the two men meet in the ring on August 26.

At his live media workout last Saturday, the Dubliner was heard to claim that if the fighters were permitted to wear lighter eight-ounce gloves, he will knock his unbeaten opponent out in one round.

McGregor's long-time coach John Kavanagh also believes that the lighter mitt will mean an early bath for Mayweather.

"The lighter the glove the better for us," Kavanagh told Ariel Helwani on MMAFighting.com.

"We are used to four ounces. We're used to the smaller glove."

"Yes I do," Kavanagh replied when asked if he agreed with McGregor's prediction.

"Obviously Floyd's an accomplished boxer and fantastic defensive boxer but no matter how well things go for him, it's still going to take a couple of rounds for him to figure things out.

"How many times have we seen it? He (McGregor) lands, people fall. That's just how it is. So yeah, I think it could be a one round fight if it's eight-ounce gloves."

Kavanagh did not believe that the Nevada State Athletic Commission would vote to permit the fighters to move down from the ten-ounce gloves mandated for bouts at 154 pounds and higher, but he was wrong.

Today the commission voted to allow the fighters wear the lighter gloves.

Mayweather stated in an Instagram earlier this month that he had no issue with the size of the gloves.

"Let's fight in 8 oz gloves. McGregor can fight in any brand he prefers or chooses. I'll be wearing 8 oz Grant gloves. Whatever advantage McGregor needs to feel more comfortable in the ring, I'm willing to accommodate.

"Let's give the boxing and MMA fans what they want to see."
