Bono says Pope Francis is "aghast" about sex abuse in the Catholic Church.
The U2 frontman met the Pontiff at the Vatican yesterday.
Pope Francis has called a special meeting next year to discuss the issue as well as cover-ups by Church officials.
Following his meeting with the Pontiff, the U2 singer said he is sure the problem will be addressed.
He said: "I explained how it looks to some people like the abusers are being more protected than the victims.
"You can see the pain in his face - I felt he was sincere. He is an extraordinary man for extraordinary times."
Bono met the Pope as part of his work with the ONE organisation, which aims to tackle extreme poverty around the world.
Speaking to reporters, he described Pope Francis as being "incredibly gracious" with his time and concentration.
