There are concerns a new flu-strain could be one of the worst seen here in decades.
The 'Aussie Flu' or Influenza H3N2 is already circulating in Ireland.
GPs are urging people in high risk groups to get the flu vaccine as soon as possible.
"A very important piece of advice is those who have not been vaccinated should get vaccinated. It is not too late to get vaccines", says IMO member Dr Ray Wally.
"You can vaccinated in general practitioners, pharmacies, those individuals who work in the health service ... it is of the utmost importance that that can get vaccinated, do get vaccinated".
