An Post has denied it's closing Phibsboro Post Office. It follows an online petition which was begun by local representative Joe Costello, to "Keep Phibsboro Post Office Open".
In an Uplift petition, the former Dublin TD claimed that "the closure of the Post Office would result in the loss of a vital public service, particularly for the elderly."
An Post says it "does not have any plans to close this or any other Post Office", but that the branch will be controlled by a contractor as agreed in talks, but won't affect any services.
The contractor, Postmaster, now runs most Irish Post Offices, and its introduction was part of a Labour Court Agreement accepted by the Company and by a trade union.
An Post says the change "will in no way affect the great personal service or range of products and services at the office", and said it looks forward to "continuing to provide great services to our Phibsboro customers."
