  • Ireland’s hopes of winning the Women’s Rugby World Cup on home soil are over. They lost to France 21-5 in their final pool game at UCD last night.

  • Ireland now go on to play Australia in the 5th to 8th place play-off next Tuesday.

  • France join England, New Zealand at best runners up the USA in the semi finals.

  • It’s advantage Everton after the first leg of their Europa League qualifier. They beat Croatian side Hajduk Split 2-0 at Goodison Park, in a game marred by crowd trouble.

  • Ireland defender Shane Duffy has signed a new four-year contract at Brighton.
