The CAO has issued 76,651 round one offers to over 52,000 applicants this morning.
The system has been revamped for the first time in 25 years with changes to the grading and points system.
More than half of all honours degree courses have seen points drop.
Figures compiled by The Irish Times show that points requirements for areas such as teaching, engineering and nursing are generally down, while points for many courses in areas such as law and architecture have increased.
