The issue of financial concerns among Defence Forces families is being highlighted outside Leinster House today.
The group 'Wives and Partners of the Defence Forces' (WPDF) is holding a 24-hour vigil.
They are demanding better pay and conditions for personnel in the army, naval service and air corps.
The partners are holding the demonstration as enlisted members are barred from speaking out.
Shelly Cotter from WPDF says enlisted personnel deserve better, given the sacrifices they make.
She argued: "They're doing it in the name of Ireland. Even though they're earning those medals - and my god they are earning those medals - medals don't feed families.
"We are very proud. But the problem then is on the flip side. The poverty in the Defences Forces is a [...] hidden secret."
